Great little stop for lunch! We had the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup in a bread bowl and it was amazing!!!!! Exactly what we needed on a cold, wet day! Loved it
It's certainly not a bad place to eat. The bread itself is very addicting, and the little museum on the top floor is certainly worth a visit. However, between how crowded it is usually and the sheer number of other amazing places to eat in San Francisco that deserve a lot more attention, I'd say you would be better off buying a loaf and making sandwiches at home, and then have a meal at one of the other hundreds of restaurants in the city.. A limited number of their entrees utilize their bread anyway, so you would be better off going to any place with relatively decent food. You'd pay the same, eat the same, but you would probably be a lot less crowded.
There's a lovely little museum upstairs past the bar and you can continue through and watch the bakery below! A very nice docent told us about their special mother starter from 1849 and gave us a loaf of fresh sourdough bread. It's a lovely bit of living food history.
The wait was long, but three museum keeps you occupied while you wait. The food was phenomenal, the sour dough bread was perfectly done and you must try the fish! Kids menu was surprisingly well balanced; offering grilled chicken with carrots and potatoes, clam chowder in a turtle bread bowl as well as burger options.
Good service even though it was very busy. We ordered the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl and thought it was excellent! The sourdough is one of the best I've ever had.
Good spot to grab a quick lunch around fisherman’s wharf. The popular item here is the clam chowder in the sourdough bread bowl. They have several other menu items with crab too. We ate in the upstairs restaurant but if you want a more casual counter order spot, the downstairs area is where you want to go. I assume their menu is more limited but they definitely have the soup bread bowl.
This is the 5 star place for sure. I love their foods and dining ambience. The server also friendly and kindly helpful. Was tried their Seafood Paella, and its so tasty. Price perhaps bit higher, but its worthy. Location very strategic in the Fisherman's Wharf area, next when hit San Francisco again for sure will dinning there again.
The bread was great. The factory tour helped pass the time while we waited. The soup was good. The food not too bad. The staff was very nice. It's a popular tourist stop in a busy area and served us well. It was fun.
